Handmade clock by Japanese artisans
Orb is a wall clock which draws inspiration from old, tarnished brass instruments such as those used during early voyages and astronomical observations. Thin engravings on the clock face form a dial on the coloured surface, exposing the brass below.
Orb emphasizes the natural qualities of the materials, using the attractive contrast between brass and coloured finish to enhance the visibility of the clock face. The distinctive texture is achieved by a process of brass casting that uses traditional colouring techniques originating from Takaoka, Toyama. The rich texture is intended to stand up to walls that have a strong material quality, such as exposed concrete or brick.
The traditional colouring technique of Takaoka Douki (copper), named Nuka yaki shudo-shoku was applied to each clock. The black satin colour with a speckled pattern is made by blackening after drawing out the pattern using a chemical and heating. The silver finish with a speckled pattern is achieved by applying pure silver plating. While the gas-bronze colour with a speckled pattern is produced by the green rust that forms when the clock face is exposed to ammonia gas.

Knit-pattern porcelain clock realized by “hand-carving” instead of “hand-knitting”
With the texture of a different material, which was considered impossible to express using porcelain, knitted stitches have been reproduced in detail with the creation of precise unevenness on the ceramic body, using a hand-carved prototype. It is finished with a moist and comfortable texture with no glazing to the outside in order to better transmit the texture of a knit.
The realness of soft, fluffy knits is expressed to the maximum on the clock, making you feel like wrapping it with your hands for its warmness, as if it’s not made from porcelain. A slightly tight modern impression is added by matching the needles in a matte color scheme, and the clock would be suited to any place regardless of the taste of the space, such as a Western or Japanese-style room.

Handmade ceramic clock designed by Yuichi Nara
Keisoudo no Tokei is made from diatomaceous earth. The clock is produced using a traditional Japanese plastering technique. The design maximizes the feature and atmosphere of earth, which brings us warmth when touched. It suits a natural-material interior, what the Japanese call a “Wa” atmosphere with wood or plaster, leading to a feeling of well-being.
SiO2, the logo displayed on the clock, is the chemical symbol of the main component of diatomaceous earth.

Clocks with Roman numerals have had a tendency to be decorated with gorgeous frames and hands because of their classical image and the uniformity of their straight lines. In contrast, by drawing attention to the beauty of the linear composition of the Roman numerals, removing the decoration to make the most of the font style, enhancing its delicate sharpness, and striking a balance between the simple hands and the frame, the RIKI ROMAN CLOCK was born in 1977.
At the time of its release, this “dry” impression probably had a big impact. But now it seems like a basic modern clock.
The boldly painted gold color of the clock frame might be the clock’s only decoration.
